Watford 1 - 2 United

DDG
Young Jones(McNair) Smalling Blind
Schneiderlin Schweinsteiger
Mata(Perreira) Herrera(Rojo) Memphis
Lingard

Ahhhhh that felt good! It's been a while since we last won a game so late. It was reminiscent of the good old Fergie days. My friends and I went absolutely mental when Bastian's shot was bundled over the goal line by Troy Deeney.

Watford are no pushovers so I knew it was going to be a difficult game; especially with us having so many injuries and having no recognized striker in the team. Roo's illness and Martial's injury meant that Memphis and Lingard had to step in and show our boss that they can actually pose a threat to our opponents. I thought they both did well. Memphis scored a very good goal - great movement, even greater assist from Ander - and created a great chance for Lingard. Lingard ran his socks off but should have had two goals to his name today. He had a decent shot saved by Gomes early in the second half and then had a tame lob easily saved by Watford's goalie. Should have scored there. Oh! And what a ball that was by Blind to create this chance for Lingard! Hopefully he'll get more confidence when in front of goal. We should have been out of sight by the 90th minute but we had to settle for a last minute winner. Well, the win was much sweeter....wasn't it?

Another player added to our growing injury list
We were quite good during the first half. Miles better than Watford. However, credit to them, Watford managed to get back into the game during the second half and they caused us a few problems especially with their fast counter-attacks. Smalling, again, was absolutely brilliant. De Gea was even better with another world-class save. Jones was having a good game but he got injured midway through the second half. No surprises there. Nowadays I'm actually surprised when he manages to stay injury free. Blind had a good game while, on the other side, Young was so and so. Darmian was on the bench, why is LVG playing a winger in a right-back position? Is Darmian that much off the boil at the moment?

Mata had a quiet game. Herrera produced a great assist but had to be withdrawn with a hamstring injury. Those kind of injuries are real bummers. That's a couple weeks out of action, probably. Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger both were brilliant. The former was everywhere while Schweinsteiger was the class player everybody knows he is. He thought he scored his first goal for United but the goal was justly jotted down as an own goal. Who cares? Must have been wonderful hearing all the away fans singing his song; Deutche fussball meister Bastian! Man of the Match? Hmmm. Schneiderlin probably, followed closely by DDG, Smalling and Memphis.
Deutche Fussball Meister

So, with Arsenal losing and City currently losing (as I write this, City are trailing 3-1), it is a decent weekend if you're a Man Utd fan. Leicester won again. Next Saturday's game against them will be a top-two clash. Who would've thought that a few months ago?! We must keep Vardy quiet. I am sure Smalling and co can do that. We've only conceded 2 goals in the last 8 games (all comps.) and both goals came from the spot. Rojo conceded a stupid penalty today but thankfully it wasn't costly.

So it's PSV next and then Leicester. If we win both we'd be topping both tables. The football's not beautiful but that mad man managing our club must be doing something right. Come on United!
