Swansea 0 - 2 United

A good performance, finally. It’s been a while (a month?) since I’ve seen a convincing Manchester United performance so today’s game was a much needed confidence booster for our players as well as the fans. Granted, we were only playing Swansea. I am also aware that they didn’t field their strongest side but you can only beat the team that's put in front of you. United had a few players missing but I think Mou fielded quite a strong line-up. You cannot classify a team with Martial and Rashford as weak, can you? Mourinho is certainly eyeing the possibility of becoming the English League Cup’s most successful manager come February (or whenever the final is…) so I'm sure he's taking this competition more seriously than other managers at the so called big clubs.

Lingard was sublime today. He scored two good goals and his movement throughout the game was excellent. This guy has the ability of being amazing or downright mediocre. It seems like there’s no in-between. I still like him though and I was really pleased for him after this game. I think he’s a decent squad player but needs to find consistency in his play.

With one flick of the ball, which led to Lingard’s first goal, Rashford showed his class. Nothing extraordinary but it was a good performance by Marcus. I expected a bit more from Martial who had a rather quiet night. Great to see McTominay and Tuanzebe in the starting line-up. I thought both players were composed and had a good game. Herrera, Smalling, Darmian and Blind were solid but Lindelof was unconvincing yet again. Romero had a quiet night until he produced a great reflex safe right at the death. That goalie would be a first teamer for some of England’s big sides. He’s probably better than City’s first goalie. Definitely better than Liverpool’s.

Always good to see United progress to another round of a competition, no matter what the competition is. It was also great to see Phil Jones on the bench after his injury last weekend. He’s our best defenders and we’ll need him against Harry Kane this Saturday.

A very tough test awaits……. Come on United!
