United 0 - 1 Besiktas

Even though Fergie fielded a young United side, I still believed we were going to win this game. However an ultra defensive Besiktas side managed to win against United at Old Trafford, something only 8 European teams have managed to do. Therefore our 23 match unbeaten run at OT was brought to an abrupt end by the Turks. I knew that the record had to be broken some day but I certainly didn't expect a team of Besiktas standard to do so.

United started quite well, Obertan looked good, Welbeck was doing fine and our defence looked solid. But after Besiktas scored the winning goal they put about 9 players behind the ball and that made it very difficult for United to penetrate. United looked more dangerous in the final few minutes than they did during the whole match. In fact, at the death, Rustu made a couple of good saves while Evra was denied a clear penalty by the ref.

I'm really disappointed with the lads today. Our final ball was horrendous and so were our decisions. These factors contributed to our downfall and I hope our youngsters learned their lesson...

This is why I like Champs league... We may not be a giants like MUFC but in the end we prove that football, after all, is the beautiful game... :))
