United 3 - 1 Club Brugge

Romero
Darmian Smalling Blind Shaw
Mata Schneiderlin Carrick(Schweinsteiger)
Januzaj(Chicharito) Rooney(Fellaini) Depay

Finally, a performance I actually enjoyed. Club Brugge somehow managed to get themselves in front after 8 minutes but from then on it was all about United. Memphis scored two beautiful goals and Fellaini eased off the pressure with an all important third goal right before the ref sounded his whistle. We could've scored more but I'm not complaining. An efficient performance that follows this 3-1 scoreline should be enough to see us through.

Memphis Depay introduced himself to the Old Trafford faithful with two world class goals that were fit to win any football game. There was a lot of hype surrounding his arrival and we've finally got to see what it was all about. His movement and finishing was top class. He also assisted Fellaini for our third. Perhaps he could have got another himself after a well worked moved by Shaw and Rooney but his shot went over the bar. It's quite a relief to see him excel in such a game after two quiet performances and he'll be delighted to have gotten off the mark. I expect big things from this guy from now on. 15 goals? That should be the target. Definitely my man of the match.

Again, our defence barely put a foot wrong. Shaw was full of energy, Blind and Smalling defended excellently and Darmian was his usual self. If there was a weak point in our defence it was Romero who almost gave Club Brugge a chance to score their second.

Carrick assisted Memphis for his first goal but the latter still had a lot to do. Carrick wasn't at his best today as he gave away the ball one time too many. Schneiderlin will have better games too. Januzaj was full of energy and trickery and was a constant thorn in our opposition. His influence did fade as the game approached its end and that's why LVG put on Chicharito. Our Mexican looked sharp and looks like his ball control skills have improved. I'm still not entirely convinced about him though. I'm still surprised Real Madrid wanted him last season.

Rooney had his best performance this season but it was nothing to get excited about. He did present Memphis a goal on a plate with a delightful touch but Wayne didn't really set the world alight during the game. I expect more from him and I think we should buy a replacement to play up front. We cannot depend solely on Chicharito and Wilson as Roo's understudies.

We've shown that when a football club plays against us with an intent to win the game, we are more than capable of attacking and making the opposition keeper work. That hasn't happened in the PL yet. Hopefully clubs will play against United with an intention to attack and not just defend. Only then we'll be able to see a similar performance to the one tonight in the Premier League. As long as teams will be putting 8 players behind the ball, we won't be able to replicate tonight's performance.

Newcastle next. I expect three points.
