Burnley 0 - 2 United
Top performance by Maroune |
DDG made a good save at the end to spare us a nervy finish. Shaw continued his impressive form with another excellent performance. He had a big say in our second goal. Chuffed for the guy - he's very likable. Smalling and Lindelof looked solid together but they were really helped by Fellaini. Maroune barely put a foot wrong today, yet I keep seeing tweets that he's not good enough. Moyes, LVG, Martinez, Mourinho - those four must definitely know more than United's digital army. Matic was efficient but needs more game time. Pogba sprayed some brilliant passes but missed a penalty. I'm not a big fan of his run-up to the ball, makes him look like an idiot when he misses. Sanchez had one of his best games in United's red - he did ever so well to create our first goal. Lingard's movement troubled Burnley all afternoon and Romelu scored a couple of goals but should have scored another two. Mind you, Hart made some very good stops on our big Belgian.
The scoreline flatters Burnley. United should've probably scored 5. The Clarets were a tad lucky with two decisions. In the action that led to Rashford's dismissal, Bardsley should have also been sent off. On another occasion, Ben Mee denied Romelu a one-on-one chance by playing the ball with his hand - a definite red. I would have been complaining about these two decisions throughout this post if we dropped points today :)
It was a very good performance but I wouldn't get too excited about being so superior to Burnley. They've struggled so far this season but then again you've got to beat what's put in front of you.
Time for the international break and then we go again away to Watford. A big test that. They're one of three teams that haven't yet dropped a point. I wouldn't be too surprised if, just like Tottenham did today, we drop points there. To win against one of the in-form teams would give United a big boost to go on a decent run. Seems a bit odd to talk about United almost as if they're underdogs vs Watford, but that probably explains the fans' faith in this squad at the moment. At the beginning of the season I thought we'd be good for a title challenge, but that faith has been crushed by two defeats so early in the season. So I'd rather keep a step back and not expect too much. I'll take anything positive that comes our way. Come on United!
Emotions got the better of me, I shouldn’t of reacted like that. Sorry to everyone at the club and all the fans #MUFC pic.twitter.com/6UWnxd4yYo— Marcus Rashford (@MarcusRashford) September 2, 2018
