I've got to be up for work in 6 hours time so this will be a short post. I thought we did very well today to contain Arsenal. We were playing against a team at the summit of the league at their home. To be honest, I didn't expect anything from the game so a draw is a decent result. Both teams could have won the game with the chances they had but either the strikers fluffed their chances or the goalies saved brilliantly. Arsenal also had a ball cleared off the line by Valencia.
We tried to defend and then operate on the counter attack. We did particularly well defensively but were quite slow when attacking. Again, our predictability when attacking proved to be our downfall as most of our attacks were well intercepted by Arsenal's defence. At the other end, Smalling was terrific and Vidic had an excellent second half. Our Serbian looked lost during the first half as he let Giroud have one sniff too many of the ball inside our box. Had the opposing striker been a better player, we would have easily been trailing by two goals by half time. So let's thank God Arsenal have got a half assed striker up front. Can't believe Wenger didn't get a better striker during the January transfer window. Having said that, I still don't think Arsenal are a title winning side. Liverpool look a better bet at the moment.
So I'm off to bed, quite pleased and proud of our boys. Moyes' plans seem to have worked out. What I hated about today's game is our refusal to go forward in the 92nd minute when we could have put Arsenal under some pressure. We preferred to pass the ball around and see out the remainder of the game. I don't really like that mentality but I guess we had to start from scratch and a draw away to Arsenal will do our confidence no harm.
There's too big a gap between us and the team in 4th place so we should forget about Champions League football and just take one game at a time. It's time for Moyes to experiment even more with his squad in preparation for next year and have a right go at the Champions League, maybe we can get lucky like Chelsea did a couple years ago. There's nothing more to lose. Come on United!
