Crystal Palace 0 - 2 United
DDG
Smalling Rio Vidic Evra
Mata Carrick Fellaini Januzaj
Roo RVP
That was enjoyable! At Selhurst Park, Palace have won as many game as we have won at Old Trafford this year....so I was feeling a bit uneasy before the game because let's just say it's not an easy ground to play at. Having said that, I was salivating at the prospect of seeing Adnan, Roo, RVP and Mata start together for the first time. They did not disappoint.
Adnan was a constant nuisance for Palace on the left, Roo was his majestic self and scored a beautiful volley, RVP looked one step closer to regaining full sharpness while Mata seemed to link very well with the trio. Another positive, although he missed a chance I would have buried while wearing a blindfold, was Fellaini. His presence was very effective especially when defending set pieces. He's still a mixed bag though but I still get that feeling that he'll improve with time. My man of the match was Patrice Evra though. His second half performance won us the game. Simple as that.
While I'd love to think we can go on a good run, I don't know what to expect from our upcoming games. You just don't know which United will show up nowadays. We've got a couple of difficult Premier League games coming up and I just hope the boys are up for it. Although trying to get that fourth place seems to be a lost cause, I'd love to see the brilliant United we saw on a handful of occasions this year....just for the sake of getting some respite from a pretty dire season.
Olympiakos next. No matter how shit you've been performing you just feel that this fixture is a pretty winnable one. The Champions League is the only chance of silverware we've got this season although, if I'm honest, it's not a really realistic target but it doesn't hurt to dream. A very mediocre Chelsea side won it two years ago and I can remember Liverpool finishing 6th in the league and then winning the trophy with the big ears. If we manage to get some sort of form, we might give it a real shot. We've got three world class players up front who could give plenty of headaches to the big European guns.
Rooney Contract
It's obligatory to say a word or two about Roo's new contract. While the 300k per week he's getting is stupid money and an amount of money that no one in the world deserves, I think that's the only thing that our club could've done to keep our best player. This scenario is the result of the ridiculous amounts of money teams like Chelsea, City, Monaco, PSG and Real Madrid are throwing at players. I don't know why people are grumbling about Roo's contract, it's either we pay him that amount of money or he fucks off to Chelsea or City. Now, we don't really want to be facing those sides with Rooney in them, do we? So good job Moyes, Woodward and anybody who was involved in the contract agreement. You do sense that with that absurd amount of dosh, Roo did get a few promises as well. Captain's armband next season? Probably. Some world class signings? Hopefully!
We're looking forward to your future at United as well, Roo! |
