An update

So, it’s been a month since I’ve posted something on this page. It’s not that I lost interest in my beloved Manchester United, that’ll never happen as I’ve been following them religiously ever since I was 8 – that’s 20 years now. On match-day I still get excited, only to have my exuberance blown away with weekly mediocre performances.

We’ve had some enjoyable wins this season but were any of them great performances? I honestly don’t know. It seems that we cannot perform for at least 60 minutes, let alone the whole 90. We look timid and everyone seems to be fancying their chances against us. Our brand of football is killing me inside – it’s shit.

There needs to be a massive overhaul at Manchester United. The people at the top, the manager and the players are not performing. It’s not just Mourinho, our current situation is a fusion of all elements at the club that has led to this decline. And the rot should be stopped before it’s too late. Woodward should just manage the commercial side of things, a Director of Football should be engaged with the club, the manager should be axed and the under-performing players sold.

And why? Well, Mourinho wanted certain players and he didn’t get them – so that’s a job not done by Woodward. Mourinho has a bunch of talented players at his disposal but he can only manage to produce bland football as our team lingers outside the top four – job definitely not done by Mou. And our players are most definitely not performing. Playing negative tactics is Mournho’s fault but not finishing good chances is not his. The likes of Lukaku, Rashford, Pogba, Sanchez, Lingard, Martial should step up. Our defence has been a shambles and Matic dreadful. If you honestly don’t think there’s quality in our squad, then you’re daft. Quality to win the league? No. But to be in top four definitely.

Listen, there’s no doubt Mourinho was a top class manager. He’s won the lot. But the world of football has changed since he was winning titles. Rooney was a top class striker 10 years ago, but he’s past it now and is playing the US. No top team would take him. My argument is that Mourinho’s  brand of football is past it. Every press conference he reminds us that he’s won a lot of honours but that means fuck all to me. The past is the past. Reminding us his past will not make us see him in better light. Actually, it’s getting very annoying now.

Since I last posted here United played 3 Premier League games and a Champions League game. The results in the PL have been dreadful, a 3-1 loss vs City, a 0-0 draw vs. Palace and a 2-2 draw vs Southampton. I understand losing to City, but dropping four points against teams in 15th and 18th place on the table is just not acceptable. At least, in the game vs Southampton, our players showed some fight to draw level after conceding 2 goals. But really, we should be winning these games.

As for the Champions League, we are through to the next round but only by beating Young Boys 1-0 through a 92nd minute Fellaini goal. If we were playing any top team we would have gotten hammered.  

Arsenal tonight. I don’t know what to expect. Half of me can’t wait for this season to end, the other half can’t wait to see Mourinho out.
