United 2 - 2 Burnley
Burnley scored early on, a very very silly goal to concede (AGAIN), and that seemed to have shocked our players. There was no real urgency shown by our side during the first half and some of the players were either shit or simply useless. Rojo was really bad and probably dragged Jones to his level. Lukaku should steer away from our box when defending set pieces because he's developing a habit of clearing poorly and helping the opposition score. I can think of three goals, this month, that he should have helped us avoid. Ibrahimovic was absolutely ineffective as the self proclaimed god looked like a 36 year old player not fit to be anywhere close to a Manchester United starting line-up. Why did Ibra start today's game? I don't know. There was nothing that suggested he's sharp enough to start games for United in our game vs. Bristol last week.
When we looked like equalling the scoreline, Defour scored a peach of a goal that put Burnley in a very comfortable position going into the half-time break. Mourinho made two changes just after the break and that's when we started showing real urgency. Lingard came on for Ibra and Mkhi for Rojo. We looked much better as Jesse Lingard scored a brilliant back heel just after half time. After Jesse's goal, I thought we'd go on and win the game. Unfortunately, breaking down a defence made up of so many players is not easy and most of our crosses (51 in total!!!) were headed/cleared away.
I cannot really fault our players for the second half performance as I thought they tried their absolute best but I expect them to show up from the first whistle. Despite all our huffing and puffing, Burnley looked set to win the game. Their players, especially Burnley's goalie, must've wasted 10 minutes during the second half. Thankfully, we did get a lucky break on the 93rd minute as Lingard scored the equaliser. If he was put on the bench today for missing an open goal vs. Leicester, he gave Mourinho the perfect answer today with an energetic performance and two goals. He's by far our best attacking player at the moment.
What is there to say? I don't know. We should have won 6 points in our last two games but only got 2. We're conceding very silly goals and sometimes resort to hoofing the ball up the field which is yielding absolutely nothing. Mourinho now admitted, indirectly, that some of our players are not good enough to be in world-class football team and I agree with him. However, he's already had two summers to get the deadwood out the door and to buy players that we really need. He has to shoulder some of the blame.
We go again this Saturday.
