What a worrying performance. I didn't read much into the Feyenoord game because we fielded a changed team and we were a tad better than them. Today we were second best in everything we did. Shambolic performance. Too many players are off-form. Too much tinkering with our formation. Too many players having their position changed during the game. That is a recipe for disaster and a disaster it certainly was. We looked disjointed and as a result we were beaten by a well oiled machine made of average players.
Mourinho certainly doesn't know what is the best formation to accommodate the players at his disposal. What's most worrying is that he has no guts to drop Rooney who was shocking today. We have Fellaini, Bailly, Pogba, Ibra, Rashford and Smalling in our team, yet he can't deliver a decent set-piece targeting any of our tall players. His passes were either under hit or over-cooked. I have to reluctantly admit that Roo is finished and he has to be dropped. You can't keep guaranteeing a starting place to a player who's giving nothing to this team. Play Herrera instead. Put Pogba further up the pitch!
There are plenty of players who should be doing better. Ibra was poor throughout the game with the exception of his movement that led to Rashford's goal. Martial was poor yet again. He should have cleared the ball to row z rather than keeping it at his feet with two Watford players nearby. That led to Watford's first goal. I think Martial stayed down 'injured' to get away with giving away the goal. That's my opinion though. Bailly's defending was comical in the action that led to Watford's penalty. Pogba hit the crossbar, but that was just about it. Fellaini struggled to control the game. Shaw was our best player. Mata and Rashford played decently as well.
The football played in the last three games has been poor. What's very worrying is that we seem to forget that we actually have to play in the first half. We've been very poor during the first half of the last three games. Against City we did well in the second half. Same can be said for the game vs. Feyenoord. Today we were good for 20 minutes after Rashford's goal. I don't think we even deserved a goal today. Hopefully Mourinho can get his tactics right next time. It's still early days but with two games lost in 5 games, I dare say that winning the league is already looking like an unrealistic target. I can't see anyone stopping City.
English League Cup next. Surely we must return to winning ways this Wednesday. Come on United!
