I was supposed to be camping till Monday evening but a stomach virus brought me back home early. I was obviously peeved at having to leave the campsite and my friends but every cloud has a silver lining and this virusā€™ silver lining was the fact that I was home in time to watch the Manchester derbyā€¦..and thank fuck I watched the game! This performance was certainly something to smile about in this horrible horrible season.

Given the circumstances, our first half was an excellent display with a mixture of crisp passes and a decent chance here and there. Defensively we were solid. Chris Smalling definitely our man of the match followed closely by Schneiderlin who was a machine in front of our back four. Him and Carrick were in control all game long, even when we looked like we were suffering Cityā€™s pressure. Oh, and what a last ditch tackle by Carrick to deny City scoring late on! This was also Darmianā€™s best performance in a while. Shame he had to switch sides because heā€™s most definitely at his best on the right.

At the front, Lingard, Rashford and Martial caused Cityā€™s slow defence all sort of troubles. Rashford scored his 5th goal of the season and was denied a stonewall penalty by todayā€™s ref Micheal Oliver. The ref didnā€™t have the best of games, he should have sent Chris Smalling off for a second bookable offence but opted not to. Iā€™m definitely not complaining about that. Rashford had a very good performance as his running to the channels gave our midfielders some passing options. Martial has the ability of getting past defenders for fun. What a player weā€™ve got on our hands. Mata had a good game too as he set up Rashford to calmly place the ball past Hart.

A good result that puts us just 1 point away from City. Obviously, since we got a good result, something catastrophic is probably just round the corner. A lackluster performance and three dropped points against Everton in a fortnight? Probably. Weā€™ve had a lot of false dawns; you just know weā€™ll manage to throw this good position away somehow. Fingers crossed we donā€™t. Come on United!
