United 3 - 0 Basel

Excellent performance from Fellaini and Co. Photo: Daily Express
Champions League nights are back at Old Trafford and it was a very comfortable night for United. As much as I expected United to win, winning against such sides isn't as straight-forward as we made it look tonight. I remember five years ago we drew at Old Trafford against Basel and then we crashed out of the Champions League when we lost against them in Switzerland.

The depth of our squad was on show tonight as Mourinho started a different back-four to the one that started vs. Stoke. Lindelof and Smalling did well but you do get the feeling that the former needs to work harder to be able to make it in the Premier League. Despite two dreadful errors last weekend, Lindelof will need to work hard to displace either Jones or Bailly. Blind did well and got an assist and so did Young who looked fresh as ever despite this being his first game this season. He had an excellent first half.

The only negative of the night was Pogba's injury. It looks like it's a hamstring problem and that means he'll be at least 3 weeks out of the game. It's such a shame as he's been really good so far this season. Fellaini replaced Paul in the middle of the park and I thought he was excellent. He scored a good header and also assisted Rashford for our third. A performance that vindicated Mourinho's pre-match comments. The Belgian was my man of the match.

Mkhitaryan should have probably scored a brace today. He was really lively but I felt he tried to dribble past players when a pass would have been a better option. It doesn't hurt to provide some excitement though and this player is doing just that this season. Lukaku scored another goal and was very good throughout. Last Saturday I said that he might not be my kind of striker but everything he did today was really good. He held up play well and was involved in the build-up to our third goal. A very positive performance. Rashford came on and scored on his Champions League debut. I think he scored on all his debuts with the exception of the FA cup. You've got to love Marcus. He's already a very good player and you do get the feeling that he'll improve.

3 more goals added to our goals tally and it's very positive to see different scorers. Oh, and we've got another clean-sheet our fourth in six games this season. Everton at home next. I expect a win, obviously, but you never know when it comes to Everton. They have the ability to be resolute like they were vs. Man City and they can be absolutely dreadful like they were vs. Tottenham last weekend.

Come on United!
