Liverpool 0 - 1 United
DDG
Young(Borthwick-Jackson)
Smalling Blind Darmian
Scheinderlin Fellaini
Lingard(Memphis) Herrera(Mata)
Martial
Rooney
We absolutely scoused this dour
game of football. Liverpool were nothing extraordinary but they were better
than us and we only have to thank DDG for keeping us in the game with three
fine saves. What a goalie. Itās a shame that two of the best goalies in the
world are currently lying in 5th and 14th place of the
Premier League table. Well scrap that, itās no shame that Chelsea are so close
to the relegation zone. Personally, that has been a highlight of a pretty drab
football season.
Anyhow, how did we win this game?
I have absolutely no idea. Itās great winning a game with some exciting
football and all that but sometimes itās sweeter when you win a game that you
absolutely donāt deserve to win....especially against Liverpool and their
deluded fans. The boiled piss on social media was a sight to behold. Liverpool
fans were fuming and I absolutely loved it. Oh, and who made our goal? Two of
this seasonās much maligned United players; Fellaini and Rooney. Brilliant.
I actually think that Fellaini
was one of our best players today. He made a right nuisance of himself and,
without being anywhere near brilliant, he was a deciding factor behind our win.
No, his passing wasnāt great but he won countless aerial duels and that eased
off the pressure especially at the end of the game. To be fair, in such games,
thatās exactly what youād want. I cannot recall an Anfield win with some great
football, not even under Fergie. Itās always scrappy, and Fellaini is great for
scrappy games. Well done.
Both Lingard and Herrera were
disappointing today. Martial looked like a threat and Rooney failed to beat
Kolo Toure once but scored the all important goal and thatās what matters when
it comes to strikers. Will people remember
that one occasion Roo tried to outrun Kolo and failed? No, of course not, not
after scoring. If he didnāt score today, I swear he wouldāve been destroyed on
social media. But thatās football nowadays. I hope he keeps this run going. Iāve
absolutely loved Rooney ever since Euro 2004 and was really gutted when he
handed in that transfer request in 2010. Heās not the player he once was, he
can barely get past a player nowadays, but heās still a very good player
especially if he plays behind our striker....and that striker should be
Martial. Loved the sight of our players celebrating with the Rooney and what
about Jones going mental in the away end? Wouldnāt be surprised if he injured
himself while celebrating.
Smalling and Blind did well.
Darmian was effective. Young unlucky. Schneiderlin good. And the man (boy?)
with the funniest run in the world was fearless and deserves credit for a very
good shift at left back. Well done Borthwick Jackson.
Iām obviously buoyed with todayās
win. The players will feel the same. We should go on a good run. At this stage
you cannot help but think what couldāve been if we had more balls to attack
some of our opposition. You canāt help but look back at the Chelsea and
Newcastle game and think that had we run out winners (we deserved to!) in those
game weād be in the mix to win the league. But weāre 7 points off and, despite
top teams dropping points for fun this season, we wonāt be able to get anywhere
close to the race that will eventually ensue between Arsenal and City.
Southampton at home next, should
win that. I also expect a slip up from either Arsenal, City or Tottenham whoāll
be playing Chelsea, West Ham(Away) and Palace (Away) respectively. We need to
get ourselves back into the top 4!
