Our 'old' players kept us in the title race |
Our old guard and two of our frustrating wingers combined to earn United a win. Scholes' header put United in the driving seat but we never really pushed the pedal for the second. In fact De Gea was in superb form to deny Norwich on a couple of occasions. Our Spaniard was my man of the match.
I had to miss the final part of the game so I missed out on all the drama that happened in the final minutes. The canaries scored a good goal which should have been dealt with by Rio but thankfully an inch perfect cross by Young was met by Giggsy who put United's title bid back on track.
I knew this game was going to be a difficult one. Norwich are no pushovers at home and in fact they only lost to Arsenal, Tottenham and WBA at home this season. That's a very good record when considering that last year they were plying their trade in the championship.
There were plenty of positives today. De Gea probably had his best match so far in a United shirt. He kept us in the lead on a couple of occasions and was only beaten through an excellent strike by Holt. Jones was another player who had a very good performance after experiencing a dip in form in the previous weeks. At the front, however, I was a tad disappointed. Welbeck missed one or two sitters while Chicharito never looked like he got going.
Anyway, I'm glad we managed yet another win but an even harder task is awaiting at White Hart Lane. The fact that Tottenham lost a two goal advantage to lose to a struggling Arsenal side will probably make it an even harder game for our players. Tottenham will probably be out to vent today's frustration and answer their critics after their derby defeat. Let's hope our boys are up for the challenge. If we win that game, we'll be in a very good chance to win the league. Come on United!
p.s. Last month, just before the City FA Cup game, I laughed at Fergie's decision to bring Scholesy out of retirement and back in our side. I now feel like a complete idiot.
